New Art - Illustration - Tara McPherson

Ms. McPherson was born in San Francisco in 1976. She was raised in Los Angeles.

She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA in 2001 with honors in Illustration and a minor in Fine Art.

She interned at Rough Draft Studios, working on Matt Groening's "Futurama" during college. She has also done album covers for Vertigo Comics as well as editorial illustrations for magazines such as as Fanta and Spin Magazine. Ms. McPherson has also created posters for such bands as as Green Day, Beck, Modest Mouse, Isis, High on Fire, and Death Cab for Cutie, she states that she only does art for bands she personally likes. Not only does she create poster art for bands and concert promotions, she also creates toys for the likes of Kidrobot, Dark Horse Comics, and Toy2R.

Ms. McPherson also had a story published in the graphic novel 1001 Nights of Snowfall titled Diaspora. The story includes an illustration by the author.

Because much of her work uses a strong clean outline, many of her pieces have turned up on skin as tattoos. She has even dedicated part of her site (below) to people who have sent her photos of her works tattooed.

Ms. McPherson currently lives in New York.

Ms. McPherson cites as inspiration, in her younger years, Garfield, Mad Magazine, and Gary Larson's The Far Side. As she also majored in astronomy & astrophysics Ms. McPherson also cites space exploration. This can be readily seen in some of her works where space suits, bubble helmets, and rocket-ships play a role.

Ms. McPherson draws in pencil, pen & ink, and paints in acrylics with her own personalized pallet of colors. Many of her works have been reproduced in print on book covers, CD covers, and rock posters.
